design mistake – paint

Whether it’s time, money, or just daily frustration, the one most common design mistakes I see is not fully testing your paint swatches.

What do I mean by fully?

The most fundamental relationship in interior design is that of light and color. Remember that without light, color does not exist. There are two main factors that you need to consider when testing a paint swatch on the wall. First is artificial light. The color of the lighting within a room plays a big role in the shade of your color sample – it could present cool or warm, light or dark. The second factor is natural light. Paint swatches should be tested and sampled during morning, afternoon, and night and along with the artificial lighting. Seeing the color transition throughout various times of the day will allow you to get the full color experience and will help you avoid disappointment because trust me – that clay color that is super warm and complimentary to your earthy beige tones, will look pink in the sunset.
